2024 Engineering Showcase

The Atom Smashers from Esquimalt High School focus on learning and developing skills in STEAM. They build and program robots for FIRST competitions, valuing problem-solving and teamwork. They’ve earned awards and competed internationally, continuing to gain valuable experience each year.

Dudley Dash is an all-girls robotics team at St. Margaret’s School, which aims to inspire a generation of girls to explore STEM and robotics. They value connection with the local and international community, while maintaining a balance between innovation and environmental-friendliness.

FIX IT is the oldest FIRST team on Vancouver Island and is a community team from the Victoria Makerspace. Recently, they were the Captain of the Winning Alliance at the FTC Invitational KDays competition in Edmonton.

The Reynolds Reybots club at Reynolds Secondary School in Victoria, BC, focuses on building robots while inspiring the community through STEM education. Each year, the team sets a common goal, developing skills in documentation and collaboration, and fostering creativity that often leads students to pursue careers in STEM or business.

UVic AERO provides opportunities for students interested in aeronautical engineering to gain hands-on experience and connect with industry professionals. Members gain experience with control systems, flow simulation, manufacturing, and many other skill sets. The club builds a new aircraft yearly to compete in the Aerial Evolution Competition or the SAE Aero Design Competition.

UVic Environmental Engineering club (UVEEC) provides novel solutions to local environmental problems. Our current project is an autonomous underwater glider that will be deployed in Saanich Inlet with a CTD payload. This will allow us to efficiently and accessibly profile data of unique water masses and properties in the inlet.

The UVic Formula Racing (UVFR) Motorsport team is a university club whose goal is to design and build a new small, open-wheeled, formula-style car each year. The car then competes in Formula SAE, which is the world’s largest collegiate design competition.

The UVIC Formula Hybrid team designs and builds a hybrid open-wheel race car each year for the Formula Hybrid + Electric competition. Since transitioning from the EcoCar challenge in 2014, the team has earned seven podium finishes, including two first places, showcasing their expertise in hybrid vehicle systems.
